Such an operation would be possible under the protection of a joint declaration signed last June, where both parties announced the decision to deploy US firepower in this country by 2026, including SM-6 missiles, Tomahawk and hypersonic weapons that have a greater range than the missiles currently stationed in Europe.
Among the signatories are the leader of the Sahra Wagenknecht-For Reason and Justice (BSW) Alliance, the politician and president of the Council of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Margot Kässmann; and the scientist Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker. On the eve of the elections to the Bundestag (German parliament), the peace activists and scientists who signed the letter are calling for the deployment of US medium-range weapons in Germany to be prevented.
The candidates (for the post of chancellor) should also not allow the country to participate in the development of European medium-range weapons, the document states.
The authors of the document believe that, after deploying its medium-range weapons in Germany, the United States could destroy Russian strategic targets such as missile silos, command centres, decision-making centres and early warning systems within minutes, which would trigger a symmetrical response from the attacked party.
