“We do not see any new elements here. You know that, during his first term, Trump was the president who resorted most to sanctions methods. He likes these methods, at least he liked them during his first presidency,” the Kremlin spokesman recalled while commenting on the US president’s recent statements on the Ukrainian conflict.
He also added that Moscow closely follows the rhetoric of the White House administration towards Russia and is taking note of all the nuances.
However, Peskov assured that they remain ready for respectful talks, like the one between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump during the latter’s first presidential term.
“Of course, we follow all rhetoric and all statements very closely. We minutely take note of all the nuances. We continue to be ready to establish an equitable and respectful dialogue, as President Putin has repeatedly said,” the official emphasized.
The day before, the new U.S. leader affirmed that he did not seek to harm Russia and called for an end to the special military operation.
However, he threatened that if there is no agreement on Ukraine, he will impose more taxes, tariffs, and sanctions on everything Russia sells to Washington and other countries.
