Vietnam requests WEF for support to develop science and technology

Hanoi, Jan 23 (Prensa Latina) Vietnam requested the World Economic Forum (WEF) to implement its policy to develop science, technology, and an innovation ecosystem, local media reported on Thursday.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh made the statement during a meeting in Davos, Switzerland, with WEF founder and Executive Chairman Klaus Schwab. He also proposed supporting the Vietnamese nation and co-chairing an annual World Economic Forum in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Vietnamese head of Government praised the recent progress in relations between Vietnam and that NGO, and opened the Center for Industrial Revolution 4.0 in the southern metropolis.

As part of the activities included in the 55th WEF Annual Meeting program, Minh Chinh delivered a speech at the debate session on Wednesday about “Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN): Connecting to move forward.”

He stated that using science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation as new driving forces will be crucial to achieving regional growth breakthroughs.

Minh Chinh also met on Wednesday with Mathias Cormann, Secretary-General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), with whom he shared Vietnam’s strategic development guidelines.

The Vietnamese prime minister also received United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Myanmar, Julia Bishop, to whom he reaffirmed his country’s stance of respecting that nation’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity and not supporting blockade measures that affect the lives of those citizens.
