Cuban film Fresa y Chocolate remains on billboard in Argentina

Buenos Aires, Jan 24 (Prensa Latina) Argentine movie buffs could continue enjoying a restored version of the award-winning Cuban film "Fresa y Chocolate" (Strawberry and Chocolate, 1993), directed by Tomas Gutierrez Alea and Juan Carlos Tabio, at Gaumont movie theater in this capital until January 29.

Set in Havana in the late 1970s, “Fresa y Chocolate,” based on the short story “El Lobo, El Bosque, y El Hombre Nuevo” (The Wolf, the Forest, and the New Man) by author and screenwriter Senel Paz, tells the story of friendship between Diego (Jorge Perugorria), a homosexual artist, and David (Vladimir Cruz), a political science student.

The film also depicts the society of the time and addresses issues such as the complexity of interpersonal relationships, acceptance, diversity, and inclusion.

“Fresa y Chocolate” was the first Cuban film nominated for an Oscar Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1994. It also won the Goya Award in Spain and the Silver Condor award in Argentina.

Over thirty years after its world debut, the film remains a classic in Cuban filmography.
