French groups condemn reinclusion of Cuba in list of terrorist states

Paris, Jan 24 (Prensa Latina) French solidarity and cooperation associations condemned as infamous, arbitrary and inconsistent the decision of US President Donald Trump to reinclude Cuba on the unilateral list of countries sponsoring terrorism.

In statements to Prensa Latina, representatives of Cuba Si France, France Cuba, Cuba Linda and Cuba Coopération France (CubaCoop) denounced the new administration’s objective of intensifying hostility towards Cuba and the US blockade.

“Without surprises, but in an ignoble manner and with contempt for the truth, Trump has just come to power and unleashed his wrath against the Cuban people and is seeking to stifle them economically,” stressed Michel Taupin on behalf of Cuba Si France, according to whom, Trump’s measure constitutes an act of hatred and infamous war, which demonstrates contempt for an international community that year after year overwhelmingly demands the lifting of the blockade.

The president of France Cuba, Fabrice Leclerc, described the step as a new episode of inconsistency in US foreign policy and further proof of its subordination in the case of Cuba to a minority that acts from South Florida. “It is not about fighting terrorism at all, because there is no element to accuse Cuba of this evil, the intention is to destabilize to provoke a social explosion that destroys the socialist project,” he stressed.

The main leader of Cuba Linda, Didier Lalande, considered the measure recently dictated by Trump to be cruel and unjustified, as well as an attack on Cuba’s sovereignty. “In a new imperialist act, they are trying to ignore the will of a free and independent people, who despite the challenges imposed on them, continue to be an example of dignity and resistance,” he said.

The president of CubaCoop, Víctor Fernández, also expressed the association’s rejection of the decision of the Republican president, framed to overcoming Cuba’s resistance, and insisted on the devastating economic and financial consequences of the measure and the urgency of accompanying political solidarity towards Cuba with concrete actions that contribute to alleviating the impact of the list.

The four organizations ratified their commitment to supporting Cuba, its people, and its Revolution and the demand for the immediate cessation of the blockade.
