Mexico and Brazil discuss how to strengthen CELAC

Mexico City, Jan 24 (Prensa Latina) Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum reported today that she spoke with her Brazilian counterpart, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, about how to strengthen the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).

“We talked a little about how we saw CELAC (…) In March, President (of Honduras) Xiomara (Castro) will leave the Presidency and President (of Colombia, Gustavo) Petro will take over; about how to strengthen this organization,” she explained at a press conference.

According to the head of the Executive, both also expressed their solidarity with Panama, in a context marked by threats from the President of the United States, Donald Trump, about regaining control over the interoceanic canal.

She also mentioned her gratitude to the Brazilian leader for his solidarity with Mexicans living in the United States, amid the announced mass deportations.

According to the dignitary, they also discussed bilateral, educational and cultural issues.

“He made the call and I am very grateful. President Lula is an extraordinary man who is a symbol not only of Brazil and the progressive struggle, but also of Latin America,” she said.
