During the meeting, Lammy stressed the importance of Egypt’s role in stabilizing the region, especially after the Egyptian-brokered ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas.
Just a few days after the ceasefire in Gaza, we discussed regional security, the search for a sustainable peace, and the crisis in Sudan,” Lammy said in a post on social media after the meeting.
According to Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tamim Khallaf, the Second Session of the Egypt-UK Association Council was held.
A reaffirmation of the commitment to a strong partnership to advance regional stability and develop trade and investment relations, the spokesperson wrote on X.
The Gaza ceasefire deal took effect on January 19, suspending Israel’s genocidal war that has killed more than 47,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, since October 7, 2023.
The three-phase ceasefire deal includes a prisoner exchange and sustained calm, aiming for a permanent truce and withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
