Lebanese Army Denounces Destruction and Israeli Delay in Withdrawal

Beirut, Jan 25 (Prensa Latina) The Lebanese Army today denounced the destruction of civilian infrastructure and the Israeli delay in its withdrawal from the south, just hours before the end of the 60-day truce period.

Through a statement, the Armed Forces Guidance Directorate condemned the demolition and burning of homes in border villages by the Israeli army.

The Army Command reported delays in the implementation of several phases of the ceasefire agreement due to the delay of the Israeli forces in fully withdrawing, which complicates the Lebanese military deployment.

According to the Army, since November 27 with the entry into force of the cessation of hostilities, the Armed Forces began the implementation of a plan to reinforce their deployment south of the Litani River, under the supervision of the government and in coordination with the agreement’s monitoring commission and the UN peacekeeping mission.

In the statement, it urged residents of the south of the country not to rush to return to the border areas, due to the presence of mines and suspicious objects left by the Israeli army after the ceasefire.

According to the statement, the institution emphasized the importance of citizens acting responsibly and following the instructions of the military units deployed to ensure their safety.

In turn, it stressed the continuity of the conduct of technical sweeping operations, the opening of roads and the management of unexploded ordinance, while carefully monitoring Israeli violations of the agreement and attacks on Lebanese sovereignty.

On Saturday, the deployment of the army in areas such as Qouzah, Debl, Hanine and Beit Lif was coordinated with the ceasefire monitoring committee and the United Nations Interim Force under Resolution 1701.

Israeli reconnaissance drones flew low over the south of the country on Saturday, as the 60-day deadline approaches.

Israel carried out explosions and set fire to homes in Mais al-Jabal, felled trees in the Shaqra-Mais al-Jabal-Houla triangle and closed main and secondary roads in villages in the eastern sector of southern Lebanon.

With just a few hours left until the end of the truce, the number of Israeli violations of the ceasefire has risen to almost a thousand and its aggressions at this stage have claimed the lives of more than 45 civilians in Lebanon.
