On his X profile, the Cuban head of State denounced the discriminatory treatment and blackmail with which the Donald Trump administration handles this issue to pressure Latin American nations.
On Sunday, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez expressed Cuba’s support for the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), in the face of such actions by the United States against several nations in the region.
The foreign minister stated on X that the violent, indiscriminate deportation that violates the most basic human rights of illegal migrants in the northern power is unacceptable.
He noted that these acts are used as a weapon of political pressure against Latin American peoples.
Honduran President Xiomara Castro called on her Latin American peers on Sunday for an urgent meeting next Thursday in order to respond to Washington’s challenging immigration policy.
In a statement published on her X account, Castro, in her capacity as CELAC pro tempore president, called for the meeting of heads of State “on an urgent basis.”
She noted that the meeting would be in a hybrid format, although the Colombian leader, who will assume the pro tempore presidency of CELAC, confirmed his participation in person in Tegucigalpa, the Honduran capital.
