In front of the statue of the National Hero, Colonel Francisco Alberto Caamaño, symbol of Latin American anti-imperialism, they declared Rubio persona non grata, considering that he will travel to the Dominican Republic with the objective of deepening the links of economic, political, cultural and military dependence with respect to the US empire.

They noted that the new head of US diplomacy would draw here the guidelines of the recently sworn-in US President Donald Trump to the government of President Luis Abinader and the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), which is characterized by its “submission” to Washington’s guidelines.

The organizations estimated that Marco Rubio would seek support from the Government, the PRM and opposition sectors for the deepening of the economic and commercial blockade against Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua and Mexico.

They stressed that these nations maintain their independence, sovereignty and self-determination of their peoples.

They warned that, with the visit by Rubio, who will also travel to other nations of the region in his first tour as Secretary of State, “the handing over of our natural and mining resources to the United States and to exploration companies such as Barrick Gold will continue and be reinforced.”

They also stated that the US military presence on the island will increase, both in Dominican territory, where they already have a base in Pedernales and control the Port of Manzanillo, as well as in neighboring Haiti.

The representatives of left-wing organizations and progressive sectors expressed their conviction that this visit also seeks that Abinader breaks diplomatic relations with China and resumes the recognition of Taiwan, in order to “damage the strengthening of the Asian nation, which the White House declares its main enemy and competitor.”
