Chief Commissioner Richard Camacho, national director against criminal gangs of that police force, explained in a video posted on the military institution’s Instagram channel that the operation was conducted on the instructions of President Nicolas Maduro and Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello.
Camacho pointed out that they first managed to kill criminal Wilexis Alexander Acevedo Monasterios, aka Wilexis, in conjunction with the Scientific and Criminal Investigation Corps and “subsequently took control of that municipality.”
Wilexis was killed on January 22 in an armed confrontation during a joint police and intelligence operation on the Petare-Santa Lucia highway, in Miranda state.
Camacho denounced the destabilizing attempts against the country by the gang, led by Wilexis who, according to authorities, had 15 arrest warrants for terrorism against the people, extortion, murder, kidnapping, and drug trafficking.
He also pointed out that extremist opposition sectors were trying to use the criminal gang to confront police agencies and cause outrage in the country.
The chief commissioner pointed out that, thanks to the investigations, they learned that this armed group, according to journalistic sources, consisted of 200 people.
The gang was financed with weapons by the extremist opposition to create violence during the presidential elections on July 28, 2024.
