“Together with the international community, we always want the two countries to take positive steps to normalize their relations,” Vietnam’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Pham Thu Hang responded to Prensa Latina.
According to the spokeswoman, this includes the United States removing Cuba from the unfounded list and putting a complete end to the blockade against Cuba, following the spirit of the relevant resolutions adopted by the United Nations General Assembly and the legitimate rights of the Cuban people.
Previously, Vietnam welcomed the former US government’s decision to remove Cuba from the spurious list of countries suspected of sponsoring terrorism, approved by then President Joe Biden last January 14, a week before the end of his term in office.
Vietnam’s consistent stance, Thu Hang said at the time, is to firmly support efforts to normalize Cuba-US ties, including a complete end to embargo measures against Cuba, in the spirit of relevant UN General Assembly resolutions.
