“This year an ambitious national project is being launched whose aim is to strengthen our position in space and help our industry become a driving force to ensure technological sovereignty,” the director said in an analysis of the national project ‘Development of the multi-satellite orbital constellation’.
The top representative of Roscosmos stressed that the program intends to create a multi-satellite constellation of about 650 devices in the next five years.
Borisov clarified that this figure does not include commercial satellites.
It’s not just a number. Each satellite will become Russia’s eyes, ears, or voice in space, providing state-of-the-art communications, navigation, and monitoring of the Earth, the director general of Roscosmos added.
Meanwhile, the chief designer of Russia’s manned space systems, Vladimir Soloviov, announced that Russia plans to launch a science-energy module into orbit in December 2027, with which the construction of the Russian Orbital Station (ROS) will begin.
He claimed that the ROS is necessary to maintain the country’s presence in orbit after the International Space Station (ISS) ceases to exist.
