“Marco Rubio, enemy of our country, as Secretary of State, continues to demonstrate his unhealthy obsession to harm Venezuela,” the top diplomat stressed in his account on the social network Telegram.
Gil stated that the high-ranking official of the new U.S. administration “now tries to support the fantasies of Guyana´s Government, which intends to strip us of the historical rights bequeathed to us by our liberators and which form an inalienable part of our sovereignty”.
The Venezuelan Foreign Minister affirmed that the only legitimate and valid way to solve the territorial controversy over Guayana Esequiba is through the fulfillment of the Geneva Agreement of 1966.
“Neither the ill-intentioned interference of our enemies, nor artful politics will be able to twist this reality”, he assured.
The Government of Guyana, he asserted, must understand that its obligation is not with third parties, but with history, international law and peace in the region, for which reason it must sit at the table and negotiate with the bases established by the Geneva Agreement.
