“Our purpose is to become a member of BRICS, but we must also adapt ourselves within the framework of the organization so that others get used to us and see that we are consistent in our aspirations,” the diplomat said in an interview with the Izvestia newspaper. The Foreign Minister also explained that to achieve their goals they must demonstrate “the seriousness of our intentions and the importance of Belarus for this organization.”
Ryzhenkov noted that Minsk is very pleased to be a partner of such an important group that includes major world powers.
The partner status would allow the Republic to act in all dimensions of BRICS activities. It constitutes a good platform for developing joint positions on the main issues of the international agenda, said the official. “It is also a good opportunity to maintain constant contact with our partners and develop bilateral relations at the highest level,” he added.
Ryzhenkov also stressed that Belarus’ presence in the bloc means it is in line with the members’ ideas regarding the multipolarity of the BRICS. “We share the goals of building peace based on mutual trust and respect of all parties. At the same time, the partnership with the BRICS ¨will allow us to get closer to the level of such large states as China, India, Brazil and Russia,” he added.
Belarus has been a member of the group since January 1st of this year, along with a dozen states.
