Such a measure arose after complaints of mistreatment on the arrival flight over the weekend of 88 Brazilians deported from the northern country.
The returnees who arrived in the state of Minas Gerais (southeast) reported aggressions, threats and degrading treatment by the U.S. immigration agents in charge of the flight.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry met on Monday with the U.S. Embassy in the capital to discuss the degrading treatment of deportees.
Before the press, Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira said that, in addition to transmitting a report on the situation to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, there were discussions on ways to deal with the thorny issue from now on.
Likewise, to discuss with U.S. authorities that “deportations should be done respecting the minimum requirements of dignity, respect for human rights, the necessary attention to passengers on such a long trip.”
