Sportfishing boats from Puerto Rico, the United States and other international destinations will arrive in the Dominican Republic with sportfishing enthusiasts in search of the Grand Champion title, compensated with awards and cash.

The main objective of the tournament in its fifth edition is fishing for Sailfish, but also for other varieties of billfish, such as Blue Marlin and White Marlin.

There will also be a special sport fishing division for species such as dorado, tuna and guatapana.

Captain Paco Vela, director of the tournament, extended an invitation to all fishermen and captains to enjoy this encounter in the Dominican Republic, one of the world’s top fishing destinations, he said.

He pointed out that the Marina Casa de Campo is a modern, world-class facility, with safe docks and many other tourist attractions.

Alma Taveras, producer of the championship, pointed out that the activity is open to the entire community of sport fishermen, both local and international marinas and yacht clubs.

It is a qualifying competition for the ‘Costa Offshore World Championship’, to be held in Costa Rica in 2026.

Besides, awards will be given to the best bill fishermen, game fishermen, boats and best captain.

Sport fishing is one of the most attractive forms of tourism in this Caribbean country, revitalizing the real estate market, especially in areas with marinas.

In 2023, the country recorded the arrival of more than 15 000 vacationers attracted by events related to fishing, consolidating its position as a regional leader in this activity.
