Directed by award-winning Cuban filmmaker Fernando Perez, winner of the National Film Award, the film is a spiritual approach to Jose Marti between the ages of 9 and 17, the only years in which he got to know, love, and understand his homeland, to do the great work that took him the rest of his life.
The film’s synopsis also explains that the work “is not a biography: it is a spiritual journey inspired by the Cuban national hero’s childhood and adolescence.”
“Jose Marti, El Ojo Del Canario” won the Coral Awards for Direction, Art Direction, and SIGNS at the 32nd Havana International New Latin American Film Festival.
The screening of this film is another tribute to the figure of the Apostle on his 172nd birthday.
