Amabassador of Japan Visits the Isle of Youth in Cuba

Havana, Jan 31st (Prensa Latina) Japanese ambassador to Cuba, Kasuhito Nakamura developed an intensive work agenda this week in the western province of Isle of Youth, highlighted the national press media.

The diplomatic chief visited the former Model Prison to unveil a plaque in memory of his compatriots imprisoned there during World War II, because, he said, there is a very important lesson to be learned.

The inscription refers to the time when Cuba joined the declaration of war against the militarist axis formed by Germany, Italy and Japan. According to the ambassador, Japanese immigrants were imprisoned in that place on this Caribbean island a long time ago, and this symbol of horror and tragedy of war should not be forgotten.

Likewise, Nakamura valued the act as an opportunity to pay tribute to the grandparents who lived those passages of history and expressed his wish that the Japanese community of Isla de la Juventud becomes a bridge of friendship, solidarity and cooperation between the peoples of Cuba and Japan.

That is the most important thing for the future, we have to reflect on history and better connect the future development, he said.

The Cuban News Agency reports that the ambassador’s visit included several activities and exchanges with local authorities and descendants of the Japanese community settled in the Pinar del Río territory since the early years of the last century.
