The Islamist group confirmed on Thursday evening that Deif, a commander of the military wing Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, was killed in an Army strike.
Israeli authorities revealed in July 2024 that they had eliminated the organization’s number two in Gaza in an airstrike at the Al-Mawasi area, where hundreds of thousands of Palestinian civilians were sheltering. Up to date, Hamas denied information and said Deif was still alive.
The brigades also announced the deaths of Marwan Issa, serving as Deif’s deputy; Ghazi Abu Tama’a, commander of the weapons and services department; and Raed Thabet, who headed the personnel department.
The Israeli army assured to have defeated 20 of the 24 Hamas battalions in the Strip, a claim denied by the group, which began to show its fighters in public after the truce took effect.
