According to a statement from the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino), headed by Cuban deputy Rolando González, this was one of the main consensuses in the meeting held on the occasion of the first edition of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic Forum, sponsored by CAF, to be held in Panama.
The role of legislators in political agreements allowing the approval of reforms and adjustments that help to face the region’s challenges favoring true general welfare is vital, they pointed out. At the meeting, convened by Parlatino, González affirmed that it is important to have a position in facing the needs, seeking in which we can all agree beyond political and ideological colors because we are talking about the interests of the citizens.
Particularly, on the attacks on the sovereignty of the Panama Canal by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, González said that it has many other expressions such as the undignified treatment of migrants, threats of economic sanctions, and abuses of bilateral mechanisms with coercive measures.
On the other hand, the president of the Andean Parliament, Gustavo Pacheco, praised the synergy that is being developed with joint standards, meanwhile, the head of the Central American Parliament, Carlos Hernández, indicated that the Master Plan for Regional Mobility 2035 is being developed in Panama in coordination with the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration.
