Russia accuses Zelensky of lying about the negotiation process

Moscow, Jan 31 (Prensa Latina) The spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, accused the president of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, of lying directly about the reasons for the ban on the negotiation process with Russia.

“Now about this topic, which is constantly whispered about Zelensky’s historical manipulations concerning the negotiation process. Why am I talking about this? Because he is expressly lying, they are pure lies. He tried to justify with a blatant lie his decision to withdraw from the negotiation process in the spring of 2022 and fight to the last Ukrainian,” said the diplomat, who recalled that Zelensky, in a press conference with the president of Moldova Maia Sandu, on January 25th, mentioned that the purpose of the ban on direct dialogue with Moscow was to curb the threat of separatism in Ukraine.

“In his fevered mind, Russia was allegedly trying to pressure the Verkhovna Rada deputies, officials from the European Union and the United States to use various ‘shadow corridors of negotiation’ threatening Ukraine’s independence,” Zakharova said. “Apparently, in the sense of the absolute collapse of his people, not necessarily in politics, but in his terrorist activities, Zelensky will now lie about literally everything. That is, it will no longer be a manipulation, it will be a blatant and direct lie,” she said.

The spokeswoman also recalled that the decision to withdraw Kiev from negotiations with Moscow came from the West, who had other plans, which were reflected directly; some were expressed in official interviews, and others were leaked to the media.

“[Zelensky’s task] was to prolong the conflict and kill, as George Bush Jr. said, as many Russians as possible, so that future generations would not have to do it later,” the diplomat said. “This idea was conceived by many Western figures,” she stressed and concluded that these were the reasons for breaking off negotiations because they did not need a peaceful agreement. And the then head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell and many others spoke about it.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin previously denied the possibility of direct dialogue with Zelensky, calling him an illegitimate leader of Ukraine, arguing that according to the Ukrainian Constitution, “the president of Ukraine, even under martial law, has no right to expand his powers, and only representative authorities can do so,” i.e. the Verkhovna Rada.

Putin specified in this regard that if Zelensky wants to participate in the negotiations, he will assign the people who will carry out these agreements with the representative of Ukraine. The Ukrainian president, whose mandate expired on May 20th, 2024, previously stated that presidential elections would be held after the end of the “hot phase” of the conflict with Russia in “a strong position for Ukraine.”
