Russia denies progress in preparation for Putin-Trump talks

Moscow, Jan 31 (Prensa Latina) Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Riabkov today denied progress in the organization of contacts between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump. "The question is asked practically every day, and every day we repeat the same answer, there are no changes. We register with the utmost attention all public signals that reach us from Washington on acute and less acute, long-standing and urgent issues," the Deputy Foreign Minister referred to the press.

In this regard, he added that such signals are important, and attract Moscow’s attention. “But the resumption of direct dialogue at the political level would be undoubtedly demanded,” the deputy head of the Russian diplomacy said. Riyabkov detailed that due to the absence of such an exchange, the stagnation of relations and their “sinking into the swamp” of long unresolved problems continue.

“We do not consider this a situation that suits us. We are ready for dialogue, ready to discuss any of the most acute issues,” the deputy minister of the foreign portfolio argued.
