The organisation’s spokesman in Gaza, Mahmoud Basal, confirmed that most of the citizens are suffering extremely difficult living conditions as a result of the Israeli aggression that began in October.
Basal stressed that the bad weather conditions caused by the winter pose a serious threat to the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in the coastal enclave.
He also pointed out that unexploded Israeli bombs and explosives scattered throughout the Gaza Strip pose a major threat to life there.
Just last week, the UN Mine Action Service said that hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza were at risk from the large amount of unexploded ordnance buried in buildings and rubble.
Bombs weighing between 500 and 2,000 pounds dropped by Israeli Mk 82, Mk 83 and Mk 84 aircraft are regularly detected on the surface and in the streets of the coastal enclave, it said.
This situation endangers civilians and humanitarian personnel living and working in the Strip, while hampering the ability of the international community to deliver aid to those in need, it said.
The UN agency noted that as of 21 January, 92 casualties, including injuries and deaths, had been recorded in the Palestinian territory.
Israel has dropped more than 100,000 tonnes of explosives on Gaza since the start of the war, according to official figures.
