The Chilean Presidency announced that Boric will meet with his counterpart, Luis Lacalle Pou, to address “priority issues” between the two countries. He will also meet with former President José Mujica, who earlier this year reported that the esophageal cancer he was diagnosed with, last April, had metastasized.
Boric and Mujica have maintained a close relationship since before the Chilean president came to power in March 2022, with mutual expressions of recognition.
The Uruguayan politician even publicly supported Boric’s campaign for the presidency of his country.
The Chilean head of state, closing his first visit to Uruguay, will meet with President-elect Yamandú Orsi, who will take office on March 1st.
The meeting aims to “strengthen diplomatic ties and establish joint priorities for the future,” especially in decentralization, sustainable urban planning, and social welfare, according to a statement from the Chilean government.
