The organization said in a statement that Rubio would seek to impose a political agenda aligned with Washington’s hegemonic interests, to the detriment of national sovereignty and regional stability.
For this reason, it called on the Dominican Government not to give in to the pressures of a politician who has proven to be an enemy of Latin American integration and of respect for the sovereignty of nations.
The Dominican Republic must strengthen its relations with the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, on the basis of mutual respect, cooperation and the defense of its independence against any attempt at foreign interference, it said.
The Broad Front warned that Marco Rubio is widely known for his ultraconservative stance and is one of the main exponents of pressure policies against progressive governments in Latin America.
In his political career, he has promoted economic sanctions, blockades and other coercive measures against Cuba, Venezuela, among other countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, ignoring the devastating impact of these policies, the statement adds.
It noted that Marco Rubio is a firm ally of far-right governments, as he promotes and supports neo-fascist agendas that seek to dismantle social rights, criminalize protest and popular movements.
His support for authoritarian regimes disguised as democracies represents a direct threat to the values of justice, equity and self-determination of the people, the FA denounced in connection with the visit next Wednesday of the head of US diplomacy.
It considered that his appointment as Secretary of State reinforces the line of US foreign policy, characterized by the destabilization of sovereign governments, interventionism, political persecution and militarization.
It is also defined by the repression of progressive sectors and social movements, and the imposition of economic and political models alien to the reality of these nations.
He is not a diplomat in search of cooperation, but a political operator who responds to the foreign policy of the United States and to reactionary sectors of the Cuban exile in Miami, the statement warned.
Along the same lines, it stated that the objective of his visit to the Dominican Republic is not to strengthen brotherhood or promote development.
On the contrary, his objective is to ensure the alignment of the Government of Luis Abinader with a foreign policy hostile to the self-determination of peoples, trying to instrumentalize the countries of the region in a geopolitical agenda that does not correspond to their needs or interests.
