Seychelles Foreign Minister reaffirms support to Cuba

Victoria, Feb 3 (Prensa Latina) The Seychelles Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Sylvestre Radegonde, reaffirmed here today his country's support to Cuba's struggle for the end of the U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade.

The Seychelles foreign minister reaffirmed his support for Cuba during a courtesy meeting with Deputy Minister of Culture Lizette Martinez, who is visiting the African nation.

Diplomatic sources said that on behalf of the Cuban authorities, the deputy minister expressed her gratitude for the historic position of Seychelles against the blockade.

In this regard, she stressed the significance of that support in the current circumstances in which the new U.S. administration of President Donald Trump is increasing the aggressiveness of the economic war and the hostile policy against the Cuban people.

Both sides highlighted the historic relations of friendship and cooperation between the two nations and the strong ties of collaboration and technical assistance in multiple sectors.

The two officials also discussed the results of President Wavel Ramkalawan’s recent working visit to Cuba, which they described as successful and fruitful due to the signing of several agreements, stated a Seychelles Foreign Ministry release.

They agreed on the importance of the presence of Martinez in Seychelles to continue strengthening and diversifying bilateral ties and explore all possibilities to diversify cultural cooperation between the two States.

The meeting also discussed possibilities for training in the arts, cultural tourism and the deepening of bilateral exchanges in the field of culture and heritage.

The meeting was also attended by the Seychelles’ Secretary General of the National Institute of Culture, Heritage and Arts, David Andre, Senior Secretary for Foreign Affairs Vivianne Fock and Senior Secretary for Tourism Sherine Francis.

Cuban Ambassador Martha Hernandez and Tomas Mendez, Minister Counselor of the diplomatic mission, participated as part of the visiting delegation, which also included Dinorah Prieto, a specialist in arts education.

Prior to the meeting, the Cuban representatives were received at the National Conservatory by directors and professors of this institution, thus initiating the exchange program with this academic institution.
