ALBA-TCP Declaration strongly supports Cuba

Caracas, Feb 4 (Prensa Latina) The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People's Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) expressed its firm support and absolute solidarity with Cuba in the face of the new actions by the Government of the United States, it was reported today.

The heads of State and Government of the integration bloc, in a Special Declaration for the Dignity of Migrants, rejected the acts of hostility and economic coercion imposed by the Government of the United States, which seek maximum pressure to overthrow the Cuban Revolution.

They also warned of the danger posed to the peace and security of Cuba and the region by the establishment of a migrant detention center at the US Naval Base in the occupied territory of Guantanamo, in eastern Cuba.

In this regard, they rejected “the use for these purposes of this military enclave, which usurps a portion of Cuban territory and has a long history of flagrant abuses of human rights.”

The Declaration, approved by consensus at the 12th Extraordinary Summit held virtually on Monday, demanded “the lifting of unilateral coercive measures and extortion, which seriously impact the functioning of economies.”

In addition to limiting the opportunities and guarantees of employment and productive work, the development of robust social security systems and the generation of own productive capacities, it pointed out.

The dignitaries expressed the firmest respect for the dignity of migrants, regardless of nationality, culture, race or gender, and demanded that their fundamental rights be guaranteed, as well as complying with deportation protocols in a safe, orderly and respectful manner, in accordance with bilateral or multilateral agreements.

They also rejected the criminalization of migration and demanded the “removal of obstacles to the free flow of migrants’ remittances to their countries of origin, which is a serious violation of human and economic rights of the families affected by migration.”

The text also condemned criminal organizations that promote and profit from migration, many of which reside or receive funding from the United States, violate human rights, take advantage of the vulnerability of migrants and subject them to risks, exploitation and abuse.

The leaders of the Alliance committed to promoting coordination between the competent bodies of the ALBA-TCP member states and others in Our America, with the objective of dismantling and hindering the operations of criminal organizations of human trafficking known as coyotes, and demanded that the United States Government confront these organizations in its territory.”

In this regard, they expressed their strongest rejection of the expressions of hatred, racism, classism and fascism that seek to plague Latin America and the Caribbean, with “the sole purpose of dividing us and creating destabilization among our peoples.”

Finally, they ratified the validity and commitment to the “Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace” convinced, today more than ever, to raise their voices in defense of the rights of the sovereign peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean, through dialogue, respect and the rules of international law.
