Another 110 Colombians, deported from the US, arrive in the country

Bogota, Feb 4 (Prensa Latina) A fourth flight of the Colombian Air Force landed today in this capital with 110 deportees on board from the state of Louisiana, United States, reported a local news media.

According to RCN Radio, upon their arrival the repatriates told of having been victims of mistreatment by U.S. authorities in the detention centers where they were held before being returned to their country of origin.

They take away our dignity, they handcuffed us.

They don’t treat us like human beings and the discrimination is always simply because we are Latinos.

“I was detained for 45 days and they passed us from one detention center to another, handcuffed by hands, feet and waist, many times the treatment was very degrading,” said one of the newcomers.

Another of them told how, after losing his papers after two years of staying in northern territory, he was detained by a policeman and subsequently imprisoned and treated like a criminal.

“They put us in cold dungeons, left us there and shoved our food under the door,” he recalled.

With this arrival, the number of Colombians deported by the United States in the last week is approaching half a thousand.

Due to the abuses described by the deportees, the Ombudsman’s Office demanded that the U.S. authorities respect the human rights of all people, regardless of their immigration status.
