In a letter to FAO Director General Qu Dongyu, the Foreign Ministry described the attitude of that organization as unacceptable, inadmissible and disrespectful, and demanded the immediate closure of its offices in Nicaragua.
According to the statement, the above is related to the publication of the report “The state of food security and nutrition in the world 2024” prepared by the FAO, which was rejected by Managua.
The MINREX noted that the report lacks objectivity and methodological rigor and contains “false information with an interventionist and aggressive tendency and has been spread in a malicious manner for political purposes.”
The cited document publishes information and data on Nicaragua that were not authorized, nor consulted with our institutions nor validated by the Government of the Republic of Nicaragua, the Foreign Ministry said.
It added that international organizations are obliged to respect the States parties, and the use of the information must have the prior consent and approval of the State concerned, which was not fulfilled by FAO.
In this regard, it specified that FAO provided false input for negative publications, the purpose of which is to discredit the Nicaraguan Government and its policies to fight poverty, human development and food security.
