“Russia is ready for honest joint work on harmonizing the balance of interests and strengthening the legal principles of international relations,” the Russian foreign minister stressed in an article in “Russia in Global Affairs” magazine.
Commenting on the issue, the head of Russian diplomacy recalled the initiative proposed by President Vladimir Putin to hold in 2020 a meeting of the heads of the UNSC permanent member States with “special responsibility for the preservation of civilization”, which is aimed at “establishing an equal dialogue on the whole complex of these issues.”
Lavrov noted that the Russian leader’s proposal had not been implemented for reasons unknown and beyond Moscow’s control.
He also summarized Putin’s words, according to which the main thing is to “understanding again what the United Nations was created for and joining the principles laid down in the Charter documents. This should be the theme for regulating international relations in the new era of multipolarity.”
Lavrov stressed that the United Nations Charter’s normative framework, in turn, is the one that best and optimally meets the needs of the multipolar era.
