The Republican politician welcomed on Tuesday the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, in Washington and promised that the US would take control of Gaza and lead a recovery of the place.
According to Lula, Trump’s plan is “a practically incomprehensible thing,” since the US participated in encouraging everything Israel did in Gaza.
“It doesn’t make sense for the president of the United States to meet with the president of Israel and say, ‘Look, we’re going to take back Gaza.’ And the Palestinians go where? Where are they going to live? Where is their country?”, the progressive leader reasoned out during an interview with radio stations in the state of Minas Gerais (southeast).
For Lula, the Palestinian people were victims of a genocide of which the United States is part of.
“What happened in Gaza was a genocide and I honestly don’t know whether the United States, which is part of all this, would be the country to try to take care of Gaza. The ones who need to take care of Gaza are the Palestinians,” he reiterated.
He insisted that they “need to repair everything that was destroyed so that they can rebuild their homes, hospitals and schools and live in dignity”.
The head of the Brazilian Executive also defended the creation of a Palestinian state equal to that of Israel in order to establish a “harmonious coexistence” in the Middle East.
