In the Great Hall of the People in this capital, both leaders witnessed the signing of several bilateral agreements in areas such as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CECP), trade, technology and media. During a previous meeting, Xi stressed that the historic friendship between the two countries, forged by leaders of the first generations, constitutes a valuable heritage for their peoples.
According to the Chinese leader, in recent years both nations maintained strong mutual political support, expanded high-level exchanges and advanced in the construction of the CPEC, as well as in other areas of collaboration.
China expressed its willingness to work together with Pakistan to strengthen the construction of a community of common destiny in the new era and contribute to regional peace, stability and prosperity.
Xi stressed that Beijing maintains a policy of strategic support for Pakistan, supports its sovereignty, independence and the fight against terrorism, and promotes development according to Pakistan’s unique conditions.
He also reaffirmed the commitment to strengthen exchanges in the field of governance and experiences in managing the country.
China also expressed its hope that Pakistan will benefit from the high-level reforms and opening-up carried out by the Asian giant.
For his part, Zardari said that his government considers this country a close neighbor and a trusted strategic partner.
He highlighted the strength of the ties between both nations and reiterated the commitment to stand by Beijing in the face of any challenge.
He also thanked China for supporting Pakistan’s economic and social development and expressed his country’s interest in learning from the Asian giant’s experience, especially in terms of modernization and industrialization. According to the local Foreign Ministry, the president will be here until February 8, during which time he will meet with other high-ranking authorities in the country.
