“In one of his first speeches criticizing the position of the Joe Biden administration, President Trump clearly stated that drawing Ukraine into NATO was a major mistake,” the Russian foreign minister noted at a meeting with ambassadors accredited to Moscow.
The head of Russian diplomacy emphasized that “these are words that we welcome because, for the first time, the problem of NATO was marked as something that the United States was ready to discuss seriously.”
Lavrov stressed that finally “not just a Western leader but a US leader, hence the leader of the broader West, made the statement” he said.
The North Atlantic Alliance promised Kiev to accept it into the organization, although no deadlines have been so far set.
