Argentinean organizations reject Milei’s decision to leave WHO

Buenos Aires, Feb 6 (Prensa Latina) Trade union and social organizations in Argentina today rejected President Javier Milei's decision to withdraw this country from the World Health Organization (WHO) and warned about the consequences of this act.

This is a political decision that has no technical basis whatsoever and is in line with the destruction of the Health Ministry.

The libertarian or anarcho-capitalist philosophy is to turn the world and our nation in particular into a jungle where the State only serves to guarantee the security and profit of the powerful, said the Autonomous Workers’ Union in a communiqué.

Furthermore, it denounced that in addition to the hundreds of layoffs and the attempts to close public hospitals, there is now the abandonment of an organization that ‘guarantees a minimum level of agreements at international level on essential issues in times of pandemics’.

He also indicated that this will mean that Argentina will not be able to have access to supplies distributed in emergency cases and will not follow the application of the global sanitary regime.

Our experts will not be able to participate in exchanges with specialists from other latitudes.

To this we add the dissolution and dismissals in the directions on vaccines and infectious diseases and the destruction of the plan for the prevention of teenage pregnancy, among other actions, warns the text.

Therefore, only those who have the economic resources to do so will be able to access care.

We immediately demand all social and political forces, particularly the Legislative Power, to promote the immediate repeal of the presidential resolutions that lead to the abandonment of the WHO, concludes the document.

Meanwhile, the State Workers Association warned that such a measure would considerably affect the public health system and would further isolate this country in the international arena.

“Milei’s idyll with Americans Donald Trump and Elon Musk translates into a very high social cost.”
