During an event for the 112th anniversary of the March of Loyalty held at Chapultepec Castle in the capital, the head reaffirmed the most important mission of that body: defend the integrity, independence and sovereignty of this Latin American country.
We are aware that, as the president has pointed out, and “it is a vision shared by society itself, our sovereignty is not negotiable,” said Trevilla, referring to “always loyalty to the presidential figure and to the institutions of the Republic, but above all to the nation.”
Addressing the head of the Executive, who headed the meeting, the official expressed on behalf of the members of the armed forces the pride of having her as supreme commander, not only “for being the first woman to occupy this position, but for her courage, good sense and broad nationalism.”
“We understand the significance of the moment our country is living, therefore the armed institutions put at the disposal of Mexicans our great loyalty to contribute to national security and development. This is how it has been and will always be,” he said.
He mentioned other relevant missions of the institution for the benefit of the people, among these, support for the public security structure, the construction of strategic works and the application of the DN-III E plan, to help in case of disaster.
That same people “gives us their trust and support, main strengths of the armed institute that allow us, even with modest resources, to have the courage and certainty to face any threat that threatens the country,” he stressed.
The statements come in a context marked by relations with the United States government, headed by Donald Trump, who threatens this country and others with the imposition of tariffs and carries out an aggressive policy against illegal immigration, among other questionable measures.
In addition, in the week just concluded, Sheinbaum told the authorities of that nation to begin acting in their own country to combat fentanyl trafficking, when answering a question about a US memorandum that orders the total elimination of cartels.
“Start with your country. Of course we are going to coordinate, to collaborate, but as I said on February 5, never subordination or interference,” she stressed, pointing out that the northern neighbor has a lot to do in its own territory.
“How does fentanyl or any other drug arrive –it is not right that it passes illegally and we do our job in our country– but how does it arrive? What happens after passing the border? Who runs the distribution (in the United States)?” he asked.
