India and Russia explore joint production of unmanned aircraft

New Delhi, Feb 13 (Prensa Latina) Russia and India are exploring joint production of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) by taking advantage of India's growing aerospace sector and the advanced technology of its strategic partner, local press highlights.

A key area of focus will be the development of UAVs using Russia’s extensive experience in high-intensity combat operations and countering modern air defense systems, a Rosoboronexport press representative told the Indian daily Financial Express on the occasion of the Aero India 2025 exhibition.

The source from one of the world’s largest arms exporters stressed that Russian UAV offers are particularly competitive due to their technical design, based on real combat conditions, which provides a proven advantage in functionality and durability. It added that the collaboration will also involve the creation of joint ventures, service centers and even regional facilities, ensuring that both sides benefit from technological exchange and shared experience.

Financial Express noted that the Russian industry’s approach to flexibility and openness to technological cooperation positions Russia as an ideal partner for India. It recalled that the Russia is looking at other opportunities where both sides can work together for production in India, establishment of joint ventures and service centres, and adaptation to customer requirements.

Through this collaboration, India and Russia aim to push the boundaries of aerospace technology, laying the groundwork for future innovations to meet the defence and security needs of both sides.

Russia is ready to jointly produce the Su-57 fifth-generation fighter jet, which Rosoboronexport is exhibiting at the 15th Aero India 2025 International Aerospace Exhibition, as informed on Wednesday by the deputy head of Russia’s Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, Mikhail Babych.

“India is Russia’s most important strategic partner in the Asia-Pacific region and one of Rosoboronexport’s key partners in the world,” the company said in a statement on its participation in the event, which will end on Friday after five days.

From 2005 to 2025, the company signed contractual documents with India worth $50 billion, and the total value of Russian military products supplied to India is about $80 billion, the company’s general director Alexander Mikheev said in the statement.
