Any faction that has not surrendered its weapons to the Syrian Defense Ministry won’t be invited to the conference, Al-Daghim said in his comment on whether the invitation will be addressed to the Kurdish militia Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which controls large regions in the northeast of the country.
He clarified that the talks will be a platform that rejects sectarian and ethnic divisions, and is based on the principle of citizenship, adding that the nature of the negotiations does not accept the participation of military formations at all.
The spokesman said that the conference will be a national conversation and not a military show of force.
On the date of the event, he revealed that this depends on the process of exchange and discussions with the citizens, visits to the provinces, study of the different visions.
Earlier, Al-Daghim said that sectarian quotas are unacceptable and pointed out that the preparatory committee will take into account the diversity of the country.
He also explained that the committee’s mission is to manage the national talks, in terms of organization, facilitation and helping citizens and conference members to achieve the desired results.
The National talks Conference is expected to include more than a thousand people from various segments of the Syrian society.
The Syrian Presidency established last Wednesday the Preparatory Committee for the upcoming National Negotiation Conference, which will decide the political and constitutional future of the country.
