The vessel was recently built in the port of Shanghai Changxing, operated by Shanghai COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry, and will be delivered by the end of this month.
The vessel is 333 meters long and 60 meters wide, with a daily output capacity of 120 thousand barrels of crude oil.
Its distinctive feature is its ability to capture carbon dioxide generated during navigation and production operations, in addition to using the residual heat to generate electricity, thus achieving the dual objective of environmental protection and energy savings.
The vessel is equipped with a scrubber tower designed to capture carbon. Exhaust gases are ducted by fans into the tower, where a specific adsorbent traps the carbon compounds present in the gases.
This process significantly reduces carbon dioxide emissions before the gases are released into the environment.
According to recent data, offshore oil and gas production and processing operations generated approximately 38 million tons of carbon dioxide in 2023 worldwide.
