EU to refuse Ukraine’s demilitarization, Germany says

Berlin, Feb 17 (Prensa Latina) German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that Europeans will not support any peace process that excludes Kiev or calls for Ukraine's demilitarization, ARD newspaper highlighted on Monday.

According to Scholz, Ukraine must remain a democratic, sovereign nation, and no decisions can be made over their heads, as Europeans will not allow that.

During a televised debate with his rivals ahead of the February 23 elections, Scholz confirmed that French President Emmanuel Macron is hosting a European leaders’ meeting in Paris this Monday to discuss the latest developments.

Scholz also emphasized that Europeans should be involved in peace negotiations in Ukraine, given their position as the country’s leading economic and military supporters.

Recently, US President Donald Trump began discussing a possible peace process in Ukraine directly with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, without consulting Europeans.

Trump’s Special Envoy for Russia and Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, stated during the recent Munich Security Conference that Europeans will not be part of the planned US-Russian peace talks in Ukraine.
