In the short term, it will have negative effects on our people, as some benefited from this aid, but overall, it cannot negatively affect the country’s economy because all economic programs depend on national revenues, ministry spokesman Abdul Rahman Habib told a press conference.
The official made his comments following the release of the latest report by the Center for Global Development, which warns that the suspension of U.S. aid will have catastrophic consequences for poor countries, including Afghanistan.
The document specifies that Afghanistan is one of the eight countries most dependent on U.S. aid.
The Center for Global Development also stated that 35 percent of all foreign aid to Afghanistan was provided by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and the suspension of this assistance will result in a seven percent reduction in Afghanistan’s economic growth.
