No progress in relations with the EU, Russia believes

Moscow, Feb 18 (Presa Latina) At the moment there are no signs of any progress in relations between Russia and the European Union (EU), the deputy foreign minister of the Eurasian country, Aleksandr Grushko, estimated today. The senior diplomat noted that the EU countries are demanding for some reason to be at the negotiating table on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, which is surprising because they have been at that table for many years, and recalled the European role in the Ukrainian crisis of 2014.

Grushko stressed that it was representatives of the EU countries who reduced the Normandy format to nothing and it was they who “did nothing to force the Kiev government to comply with the Minsk agreements.

“Moreover, at that time it was understood and then it was openly said that they were instigating the kyiv regime not to comply with the Minsk agreements,” he added.

“The goal of European policy was to prevent the conflict from ending through a political-diplomatic way. They wanted to continue it until they defeated Russia, until they inflicted a strategic defeat on it,” he warned.

As a result of this, Russia rules out any role for the European Union or for the European countries in the upcoming negotiations, he said.
