In the presence of its general director, Rosa Virginia Chávez, daughter of the deceased Venezuelan revolutionary commander, members of the Foundation explained that this action fulfills one of the objectives of this effort: to honor and give continuity to the friendship between the two nations, consolidated by both commanders.
They explained that since 2013, the initiative has opened spaces to bring the population, and especially the new generations, closer to the life of Chávez, from his childhood, early youth, and his progressive development as an ideologist, soldier, mobilizer of consciences and leader of a project with profound meaning for his country.
According to the speakers, the publication of the book “Diario del Cadete” (The Cadet’s Diary) allows the political concerns of the 19-year-old man to be disclosed, full of doubts, uncertainties and dreams, while he was studying at the Military Academy.
The foundation also launched the biographical essay “Hugo Chávez. Venezuelan Man, Soldier and Fighter (1954-1998),” which contains letters, photographs and other documents of stages and events that marked milestones in the formation of his political personality, including the civil-military rebellion that he led in 1992.
Chávez’s “Operations Diary,” written at the age of 23, after he graduated from the Military Academy and was assigned to the anti-guerrilla struggle in 1977, reveals the political maturity, the consolidation of the revolutionary consciousness of the future leader, and describes his encounter with the work of leftist ideologues.
An exhibition of newspaper materials, which can also be found on the institution’s website (www//hugochávez.ve) under the title “Hope is in the street. Hugo Chávez 1994,” collects the political struggle of the revolutionary leader, his capacity for mobilization and popular support. It also includes the column entitled “Por Ahora,” written by Hugo Chávez in the national newspaper La Razón in 1994.
The exhibition closes with testimonies of the meeting between leaders Fidel Castro and Hugo Chávez, which sealed a friendship that brought both nations and peoples closer in the most diverse areas, and continues today.
