In an interview with Prensa Latina, Xu Shicheng, professor at the Institute of Latin America of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said that these ties are based on principles of mutual respect and benefit.
“China and Latin America are united by the sincerity of common support and progress, rather than geopolitical calculations characterized by zero-sum game and winner-take-all approach,” he said.
The expert pointed out that the ties between the two sides are not accompanied by conditions or aimed against third parties, but rather respond to the needs of Latin American and Caribbean countries.
“This mutually beneficial cooperation has brought tangible benefits to the peoples,” he said.
Xu criticized U.S. actions to hinder China-Latin America ties, which he described as hegemonic interference.
According to the researcher, these measures will fail to stop exchanges between the two sides and will be useless.
“Working towards the same goal and strengthening cooperation is already an irreversible prevailing trend,” he stressed.
