New Delhi, Feb 19 (Prensa Latina) India and Russia have inked a new defense logistics pact to enhance coordination in exercises, disaster relief, and other joint operations, mass media reported on Wednesday. The Reciprocal Exchange of Logistics Agreement (RELOS), signed following a meeting between Russian Deputy Defense Minister, Colonel General Alexander Fomin, and Indian Ambassador to Moscow, Vinay Kumar, is essential to greater military interaction between the two countries, according to a report by Russia Today (RT)'s India correspondent office.

It also focuses on consistently strengthening cooperation in the spirit of a special privileged strategic partnership, the media, quoted by Russian military sources, affirms.

The two nations noted the importance of the agreement in advancing military cooperation and reiterated their commitment to strengthening defense ties.

The pact is expected to enhance interoperability between both countries’ armed forces, particularly in military exercises and humanitarian or disaster relief operations, RT stressed.

Alexey Kupriyanov, director of the Center of the Indo-Pacific Region of the Primakov National Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO), told RT that agreements of this kind expand the geographic possibilities for peacetime operations for all participating parties.
