The two nations issued the call following a meeting at the United Nations between Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Abdul Karim El-Khereiji, the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported.
A statement resulting from the meeting also advocates the rapid reconstruction of Palestinian territory destroyed by Israel’s military siege, as well as the beginning of progress towards a two-state solution to resolve the Middle East crisis.
According to APP, the two authorites discussed recent developments in the region, including the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza and the West Bank.
They also stressed the key role of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in addressing matters concerning the Muslim community.
The day before, in a briefing with the OIC Group in the US city of New York, Dar urged Muslim countries to work together to preserve the interests of the Palestinians and the principles and objectives of the Arab and Muslim Ummah.
