A note released on Wednesday morning by the Holy See press office briefly states that “the Pope spent a peaceful night, woke up and had breakfast.”
On the other hand, a report published on the Vatican News website states that a chest CT scan prescribed the day before by the medical team that is caring for the Supreme Pontiff “showed the appearance of bilateral pneumonia that required further pharmacological therapy.”
“Laboratory tests, chest X-rays and the Holy Father’s clinical condition continue to present a complex picture,” the source added.
The Bishop of Rome is facing a polymicrobial infection, in a context of bronchiectasis and asthmatic bronchitis, which required the use of antibiotic therapy with cortisone, which makes therapeutic treatment more complex, the source added.
