President predicts good year for Mexico despite any uncertainty

Mexico City, Feb 20 (Prensa Latina) The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, predicted today a good year for the country despite any uncertainty regarding the decisions of the United States administration in trade matters.

“We believe that it will be a good year, despite any uncertainty that may arise in front of the new government of the United States, because we are doing our job,” said the president during her usual press conference.

In this sense, Sheinbaum highlighted investments in the country, such as the one announced this Thursday by the American streaming platform Netflix, amounting to one billion dollars, and underlined the existence of a very important portfolio in this area.

The Ministry of Economy is “working permanently with these companies to strengthen the investment that comes, we have the well-being poles, the Mexico Plan. So, it is not that we are leaving the market to see if investments come,” she explained.

She added that her government is constantly working to promote an economic development project related to public works and the distribution of resources through the Welfare Programs (social) in a direct manner.

“The roads that we are going to build are already being put out to tender, work is already being done on the trains. April-May will be marked by a boost to the economy in construction, public works, housing, and also the investments that we are proposing in the Welfare Centers,” she explained.

Referring to the reduction yesterday of the growth forecast for the gross domestic product of the nation by the Bank of Mexico, from a previous 1.2 percent to 0.6, the president recalled that this financial institution evaluates “based on what it sees from the macroeconomic indicators.”

“We do believe that we have to intervene and promote greater economic development,” she said.

When presenting the budget for 2025 in November last year, the government projected economic growth of two to three percent and reaffirmed its commitment to lower-income sectors in terms of spending.
