Apart from the heads of government of the area, the conclave was attended, as special guests, by the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and representatives of countries from Africa, the Middle East, Europe and North America to expand contacts with the Caribbean countries and explore the potential for cooperation.
Since the inauguration on Tuesday, the event is the scene of the signing of agreements, side meetings, business sessions and plenary sessions where issues such as food and nutrition security, climate change, the situation in Haiti, digital resilience, maritime and air transport, and reparations for the abuses suffered during the slavery era are discussed.
This gathering will conclude with a press conference at the end of the afternoon and the leaders of the group are expected to present the results and consensus reached during the assembling.
The 48th Caricom Heads of Government Conference was held last Tuesday under the theme “Strength in Unity: Building Caribbean Resilience, Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development”, and focused on deepening regional integration and better promoting the interests of Caribbean people in the international arena.
