Regarding the Middle East, we welcome the ceasefire in Gaza and the release of the hostages, support humanitarian assistance, (…) and advocate for a two-state solution, Foreign Minister Subrahmanyan Jaishankar said at the meeting of foreign ministers of the Group of 20 (G20) that ends this Friday in South Africa.
However, he noted that other conflicts such as those in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan and the Sahel do not receive the attention they deserve and this must change, he insisted.
The head of Indian diplomacy further advocated maintaining the cessation of hostilities in Lebanon, as well as ensuring an inclusive, Syrian-led and -controlled solution and called peace and stability in the region vital for the whole world.
Regarding his country’s position on the Indo-Pacific, he said that it is essential to ensure maritime security in that area, noting that restoring trade through that route remains a priority.
He also reiterated India’s advocacy for the use of diplomacy and dialogue for the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine, and expressed hope for a final agreement between the parties involved to bring about an end to the war.
